Museum renamed

Forthcoming facility is now the Gateway Science Museum

Construction of a museum located at the easternmost section of Chico State’s campus is getting close to completion, and now the forthcoming building is getting a new name.

Long referred to as the Northern California Natural History Museum, the facility will now carry the chosen moniker of Gateway Science Museum. The new name is a shorter and catchier one preferred by respondents of an extensive study, say museum officials.

“We have often used this term to describe the museum as a gateway to science, education and the North State,” said Judy Sitton, board president, in a statement issued by the university.

Construction is scheduled for completion this summer. Eventually, the museum will be home to permanent exhibits highlighting myriad aspects of the North State’s natural environment.
