Up for some “in your face” poetry? Chico poetry slam promoter Taz Yamaguchi has put together an awesome DVD that features some of the most incredible slam poets in the entire nation—including the ever-inspiring Jamie Kennedy (“I’m a weird sort of loner who’s able to mobilize large groups of people into doing outlandish shit”) and the crowd-pleasing Mike McGee, both National Poetry Slam champs who have performed more than once in Chico. Filmed in December 2003 at a slam held before a packed house in Modesto, the nicely edited ILL List, Vol. 1 captures the heart, soul and sheer energy of 13 rising slam poets.
