Flunking out big time

It didn’t take long for Greg Wright to make a total mess of his life—only 90 minutes. That’s how much time passed from the moment the Oroville 17-year-old allegedly walked onto the Las Plumas High School campus last Friday (Sept. 28), took 30 fellow students hostage in the band room, fired two shots from a .22 caliber pistol into the ceiling and then surrendered to authorities. He allegedly had wanted to kill a 15-year-old romantic rival, who fortunately wasn’t at school that day.

Now he’s in jail and facing the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison. Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey announced Monday that, because of the seriousness of the allegations and Wright’s prior record in Oklahoma, he would be prosecuted as an adult. The youth was arraigned Tuesday on multiple felony charges, including attempted premeditated murder, four counts of false imprisonment by force or violence, and discharging a firearm on campus.
