New beer, TV and summer JAM!!!

Feather Falls Brewing Co.

Feather Falls Brewing Co.

All new for summer

• New beer in town: Us Chico-ites could be forgiven for thinking we already have achieved a state of complete beer perfection, but when it comes to locally crafted brews Arts DEVO says the more choices the better. With that said, there is a new local brewery being built right now(!) at Feather Falls Casino in Oroville. The Feather Falls Brewing Co. will be brewing and serving six to seven different homebrews (plus special seasonal selections) in a brand-new 350-seat restaurant/live-entertainment venue beginning in December 2010. See more at featherfallscasino.com/brewing-co.

• New reason to like the Internet: UbuWeb (www.UBU.com/sound): “Founded in November of 1996, initially as a repository for visual, concrete and, later, sound poetry. Over the years, UbuWeb has embraced all forms of the avant-garde and beyond.” It’s as cool as it sounds.

• New reason to like the TV: Work of Art on Bravo (Wed., 10 p.m.) If competition reality shows must exist, at least we have this: a new series featuring a houseful of aspiring artists of varying temperament and pedigree (e.g. mopey messy-headed boy-genius Miles who makes you want to play a game of Pin My Foot Hard into Miles’ Crotch) being put through art-making tasks. Two thumbs, and one severed ear, up! Watch online at bravotv.com.

• New heartbreak: The Secret Stolen is hanging up its guitars. After five years of rocking fast and very well, AD’s favorite local band is calling it a day. Send the guys (brothers Nolan and Cameron Ford, Billy DiBono and Dallas Oliver) away in proper Chico fashion at the farewell/CD-release show at Chico Cabaret on Sunday, June 27, 8 p.m. Chico is about to be less rad.

• New-new-sparklin’-new mix CD for rocking well in the summertime: The freshest jam is finally ready to spread across your toasted Nor Cal summer. A mostly hyper soundtrack filled with fist-pumping/ass-kicking anthems, slow jams, dance-funk, head-bobbing indie-pop, and more than a few bursts of noise. And it all can be yours if you know how to operate the Internet … or if you just send me a note (<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">{ document.write(String.fromCharCode(60,97,32,104,114,101,102,61,34,109,97,105,108,116,111,58,106,97,115,111,110,99,64,110,101,119,115,114,101,118,105,101,119,46,99,111,109,34,62,106,97,115,111,110,99,64,110,101,119,115,114,101,118,105,101,119,46,99,111,109,60,47,97,62)) } </script>).
