Arrest in boosters theft

Ten months after funds first went missing from the Pleasant Valley High School sports boosters’ club, Chico police have arrested the woman entrusted with keeping track of the group’s money on felony grand theft charges.

She’s Shannon Hostetler, 42, who was the club’s treasurer when accounts turned up short in April 2007. At first the amount missing was thought to be around $20,000, but an audit has shown that it added up to $69,453 over two years.

Chico police referred the case to the District Attorney’s Office in July, but DA Mike Ramsey chose to wait until the audit was completed before filing criminal charges.

Hostetler allegedly made unauthorized bank and ATM withdrawals and wrote unapproved checks to herself, according to a CPD press release.
