World-class hops

House IPA, Berryessa Brewing Co.

The hoppy brew and IPA craze blowback is real. And I get it: There are so damn many of them—everywhere!—and often overly bitter, too malty or syrupy. But this is not the case at Berryessa Brewing Co., where you will find some of the finest hopped beers in the country. (I can make that claim because I've tasted a ton, from PseudoSue to Julius, Sip of Sunshine to Abner.) Anyway, head brewer Chris Miller has been tweaking his recipes lately, and the result is a house IPA that's juicy, dry and so damn good it has me saying crazy shit like, “I'm moving to Winters!” Pro tip: Berryessa now sells “crowlers”—chunky 32-ounce cans—at the brewery only, and just 300 each weekend.
