What Lies Beneath

Rated 3.0 Stuffed with tributes to Hitchcock and your typical haunted-house gimmicks, director Robert Zemeckis manages above-average entertainment despite its lack of originality. Having Michelle Pfeiffer and Harrison Ford on board in top form is a big help. Both deliver performances among their best. While some of the stunts Zemeckis pulls in this story of a house possessed are old hat, he manages some major scares and an overall sense of dread. The film is no classic, but it will provide you with summer fun. It’s also nice to see Ford depart from his usual goodie-goodie role.
