We’re shocked—shocked!

A few days ago we were jabbering about singer-songwriters who’d fallen off the radar. "Whatever happened to Michelle Shocked?" someone asked. It was a real head-scratcher: Yeah, didn’t she play this year’s Jazz & Heritage Fest in New Orleans? At any rate, the itinerant singer—who first caught the public eye in the 1980s when the owner of an English independent label taped her casually performing at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas and released the resulting album, which went to No. 1 on the U.K. indie-label charts—is performing in this area. Specifically, Shocked will headline a "Summer Solstice Dance Party" at the Veterans Memorial Hall, 255 Auburn St., Grass Valley, at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 21. Tickets are $18, or $16 if you’re a KVMR member. For more info call KVMR at (530) 265-9073.
