The story of the Submarines is atypical of the couple-band phenomenon. Bands like Mates of State are as adorable as the music they produce. However, it wasn’t until Blake Hazard and John Dragonetti split up that they started writing the songs that would become the Submarines’ first album. Hazard, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s great granddaughter, and Dragonetti fronted the psychedelic-pop act Jack Drag through the second half of the ’90s. Their sound is like a beautiful marriage of guitar pop and electro pop, and following the formation of the band, their relationship rekindled, and the couple married more than just their sound. They married each other as well. 1400 Alhambra Boulevard, www.thesubmarines.com.
