An odd, haunting sense of a bygone world mixed with a taste of the absurd awaits viewers at Jayjay, an art gallery in East Sacramento. On display is Folk Tales, an exhibition of works by local artist Galelyn Williams. Her pieces, miniatures and assemblages that incorporate old photographs modified with paint and ink, found items and texts, evoke sepia-tinted visions of a Victorian past, tainted with dream colors and the deep crimson stains of religious guilt. Stand before Williams’ intricately detailed creations with eyes open, and you may be pulled into another reality. Jayjay is located at 5520 Elvas Avenue. It’s open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The show runs through December 21. Also on display is Hand Picked: Selected Works From Magnolia Editions, featuring works by nine artists.
