Foothill Theatre Company presents an original adaptation of the children’s classic by Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden. Playwrights Gale Fury Childs and Jonathan Gillard Daly wrote this new script—Childs also wrote the new adaptation of Dickens’ Great Expectations that was produced by Foothill Theatre last year. The play (not to be confused with the popular musical that is also based on the same source) concerns two young cousins living in a dark, mysterious house in the English countryside, and their efforts to overcome life’s setbacks, amidst “Victorian Gothic” settings. The garden of the title holds redemptive powers. Performances are at the Nevada Theatre, 401 Broad St., Nevada City. 7 p.m. Thursday, 8:15 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. $5-$21. (530) 265-8587 or toll free (888) 730-8587. Through December 30.
