Two women

Rosalie Sorrels, who’s almost fixing to get ready to retire from life on the road.

Spend five minutes with Rosalie Sorrels, and you’ll know you’re in the presence of a woman who’s earned her chops in the school of honest living. Idaho’s gift to the world is in her 60s now, but in truth she’s ageless, at once the wisest woman you’ve ever met and the most youthful. Every song she sings, every irresistible yarn she spins comes from a deep and soulful place. As Rolling Stone once said: “Rosalie Sorrels, who must know a million songs, can sing each one as if it’s her life story.”

The Traveling Lady, as she’s been called, is about to hang up her touring hat, so her appearance Friday, May 4, at the Palms Playhouse in Davis may be your last chance to see her work her magic. Joining Sorrels will be Terry Garthwaite, onetime lead singer in Joy of Cooking, a fine ’70s Bay Area band. The two women are old friends who once toured and collaborated on a CD, and they’ll be swapping tunes and telling tales till the cows come home. Show starts at 8 p.m. at the Palms, 726 Drummond Ave., Davis. Tickets are $15.75. For information call (530) 756-9901.
