Jack Ogden, “Painter’s Platters,” oil on canvas, 2001.

Jack Ogden taught art at CSU Sacramento for over 35 years, and it’s safe to say that more than a few local artists have been influenced by his vision. Now he’s retired, but he’s still painting, and this collection, on display at the Solomon Dubnick Gallery through February 2, demonstrates what he’s been up to lately—paintbrushes, platters, mixing bowls and other objects, suspended in mid-field or positioned in groups, expressed with a reasonable amount of verve and élan. Also on display are some colorful mixed-media constructions from Arthur Sordillo, circa 1984-85. Solomon Dubnick Gallery is located at 2131 Northrop Ave., just west of Howe; it’s open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For information, call 920-4547.
