Kid tested and approved!

Whoever said that there was no such thing as a free lunch was wrong. There is such a thing, and every summer Sacramento-area youths (18 and younger) are entitled to one free lunch a day. Yep, each year, the city of Sacramento sponsors the Summer Lunch Program, a federally funded children’s nutrition program that provides area youths with free box lunches (no cooking required!). Before a food item can be approved for the lunch, it must be tasted and rated by youths—meaning that the lunches are not only nutritious, but also delicious. Sacramento is home to more than 100 Summer Lunch Program sites, all located in kid-friendly locations like parks, recreation centers, schools and apartment complexes. The program kicks off on Monday, June 27, and continues through Friday, September 2. Call (916) 498-1000 to find a location near you.
