There is a light
This weekend, Green Valley Theatre Company opens Striking 12—The Groove Lily Musical, a production with a story that begins on New Year's Eve, when a weary working stiff decides to stay home. In a twist, this show takes viewers back to the same holiday 100 years prior, when Hans Christian Andersen's famed Little Match Girl character is doing her sad-waif-in-the-snow routine. Striking 12 joins the past with the present via a character who shows up at the sad sack's door in the interest of selling him some “full-spectrum holiday light bulbs.” 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 7 p.m. Sunday; $18. Grange Performing Arts Center, 3823 V Street; (916) 736-2664; www.greenvalleytheatre.com. Through December 20.
