The Noun Painter

Esteban Villa, mapped by Stephanie Sauer

Copies of The Noun Painter are available at La Raza Galeria Posada (1022 22nd Street) or online at www.artlyrics.net.

Musician, poet and artist Esteban Villa has drawn a tribute to Sacramento by documenting his own route of travel throughout the city on a given day. Walking “from Broadway to the American River” and drinking “approximately thirty-two fluid ounces of black coffee and three pints of beer on each run,” the artist covers a lot of ground. With felt tip markers and a fine-point Pilot pen, Villa sketches some of the characters and landmarks he sees along the way. On the back of the drawings (they’re playing-card size) are the locations of his route so you can follow him along on his adventure. Mapped by Stepahnie Sauer, this deck of art cards is a must-have for any Sacramentophile. And if you look close enough, you might recognize a few of the locations, or even some of the people.
