The most important meal of the day

There’s nothing like a great big breakfast out. I asked Lisa Cox, owner of downtown’s Bountiful Country Market (1301 I Street, (916) 438-3223), for her favorite spots to get breakfast that’s, well, bountiful—that is, when she gets a chance for a leisurely morning meal. Her top local picks:

1. Ernesto’s Mexican Food: “I usually get chorizo con huevos and flour tortillas.”

2. Cafe Bernardo: “They do a dish where they take potatoes with onions and bell pepper and serve them with cheese and sour cream—it’s really good. And they make really good strong coffee, which is what I like.”

3. Alonzo’s Coffee Shop: “I always get the pozole. It’s a little hole-in-the-wall, but it’s been there since I was a kid, and it’s always filled with Mexican people. I happen to be Mexican, and that’s a really good sign.”
