Tex-Mex pie

Chavez, Federalist Public House

There is a lot of excellent pizza in Sacramento, so picking any one place—or even one pie—as a particular standout can be difficult. Still, there are a few that are exceptionally noteworthy, and one of those is the Chavez ($15) over at Federalist Public House. It’s an addictive fusion of two excellent cuisines: Italian and Tex-Mex. A succulent smattering of pork carnitas is the star topping, backed up by red onion, cilantro, a drizzle of crème fraîche and a piquant salsa verde. Eschew pepperoni for a night and give this Southwestern pie a try. 2009 Matsui Alley, http://federalistpublichouse.com.
