Taste the rainbow

Guavas

The East Coast may be wallowing in snow, but it’s early spring here in California. So even though guavas seem like summery tropical fruits, they’re already in the markets. There are at least 100 varieties, so you can find a rainbow of colors for the skins and flesh. You may also see pineapple guavas, a.k.a. feijoas, which can be creamy white or pinkish inside. They aren’t true guavas, but whatever. Regular guavas and pineapple guavas are both high in vitamin C and antioxidants, and they’re undeniably addictive. Oh, and start looking for guayaba aguas fresca in taquerias!
