Sub.bionic

Sub.bionic is what happens when a classically trained musician starts hanging out in drum circles. Part pre-Dark Side of the Moon Pink Floyd meets A Perfect Circle by way of early Led Zeppelin, You I Lov// captures the feelings of late-’60s dark psychedelia and the sentiment of our modern-rock era. Too orchestrated to get labeled as “emo,” too contemporary to be a throwback, Sub.bionic almost sounds too far advanced to be heard in 2002. The group is led by two Jimmies (Tuckett and Paxson), backed by diverse but seasoned pros who have played with Alanis Morissette, Robbie Robertson and Methods of Mayhem; the disc was mixed by Krish Sharma (The Cult, Perry Farrell) and recorded by Ronnie Riviera (Madonna, Don Was). You I Lov// is a masterpiece worthy of being placed up there with Radiohead’s Kid A, Modest Mouse’s The Moon & Antarctica and A Perfect Circle’s Mer de Noms.
