Look out for women brandishing welding torches! The entertaining results are what you’ll find when you make the trek upstairs to Excentrique, located at 1409 R Street. Industrial artworks by Linda Raynsford and Jennifer Johnson will dazzle your eyes, not with tinsel and colored lights, but in Curves: New Sculpture in New and Found Steel. The two women, who share a Placer County studio, skillfully have conquered the metal—hammering, welding and contorting steel to their will and artistic visions. A life-sized female figure with textured skin (tanned under a hammer) casually reclines on the floor, greeting visitors to this show until December 30. Other smaller, more abstract figures come together, connected by rebar arms, as a modern tin family born of found metal. A sleek purse might be the hit of the party, combining beauty and function with beautiful art-deco-style embellishment that could double as a mirror for those quick fixes.
