Anyone who used to drive I-80 through Vallejo probably remembers seeing the Horse+Cow, which looked like a bar that catered to submariners and other old-salt types who would drop-kick your keister if you walked in there with a landlubber attitude. The bar’s now gone, but local artist Steve Vanoni appropriated the name for his new art gallery on Del Paso Boulevard. Gallery Horse Cow, at 1409 Del Paso, opens Saturday, June 9, with a shebang from 7-10 p.m.; two shows are featured, with pieces by 60 artists. “Southern Folk Art Salon” will showcase, well, Southern folk art along the lines of Rev. Howard Finster’s work, and “Outsider Artists From the Short Centers North and South” will display pieces from two local schools for the developmentally disabled, where a few area artists—including Vanoni—teach.
