Dominique Carolyne Patrick, “The Nest,” mixed media.

Local artist Dominique Carolyne Patrick has been doing large nude figurative paintings involving various degrees of political metaphors for several years. She had developed a technique that incorporates the use of string or rope to outline the images, which help to boost the decorative and eye-popping aspects of her work. Then, she had a child. Every youngster loves Dr. Seuss books, and, consequently, many parents learn to love them—or fall back in love with them. Patrick’s painting subjects took a turn. Inspired by these colorful cartoon illustrations, she has filled the void between inspiration and her style of working, the fresh and fun result being the “Dr. Seuss” paintings currently on display until June 6 at the Barton Gallery, 1723 I St. Call 443-4025.
