Something to chase

These are the Skirts. They have a new album. It is surprisingly nifty.

These are the Skirts. They have a new album. It is surprisingly nifty.

A few short years ago, around the time the Skirts were negotiating the transition between jokey “what if?” band and the more serious combo they evolved into, if you would have told me they’d cut an album as utterly engaging as Smashing the Sky, I’d have told you to put the crack pipe down. But if you have a weakness for sweetly muscular ’80s Chinnichap-style rock-pop guilty pleasures, well, maybe you want to show up in person at the Boardwalk this Friday, June 28, when the fivesome celebrates the release of this Jones-produced slab on its own Blackliner label, along with Popgun, Daycare and the Needs. The Boardwalk is located at 9426 Greenback Lane in Orangevale, the show starts around 8:30 p.m., cover’s $8, all ages are welcome and, uh, yeah, if you jones for pure pop, this’s your ducat.
