In a classic case of “what you see is what you get,” local jazz quartet the Sardonics are playing the True Love Coffeehouse this Saturday to celebrate the release of a new CD, which was recorded live at, you guessed it, the True Love, back in February. Live @ the True Love Cafe 2 - 22 - 02 features the driving tenor sax of Aaron Thurman and the swirling arabesques of guitarist Ross Hammond ably backed by bassist Aaron Weiss, drummer Todd Temby and guest percussionist “Joaquin McPeek”—which sounds like a bit of a nom de thwack. The disc’s nine cuts, which clock in at over an hour, feature a cool blowing session with chin-scratching café habitués talking in the background—just what you’ll hear Saturday! Opening is the Hypnotic Four with some fine surf sounds. At 9 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2406 J St., $5
