Shaft

Rated 4.0 I don’t care if this movie is a little on the dopey side; Samuel L. Jackson kicks ass as Shaft. Director John Singleton (Boyz N the Hood) provides some decent summer fare with this modern reworking of the granddaddy of all blaxploitation films. Detective John Shaft (Jackson), nephew of the original Shaft (Richard Roundtree, who appears in the film) quits the force and goes the vigilante route to pursue a racist killer (Christian Bale, who’s psycho again). Besides offering Jackson in perfect, totally cool mode, the film features a funny/nasty villain in Peoples, a Dominican drug lord played frighteningly by Jeffrey Wright. This movie is cool!
