Shack attack

What could you possibly find at a place called The Shack besides greasy subs and potato chips? You’d be surprised. If you haven’t been to The Shack (5201 Folsom Boulevard) yet, don’t go expecting cold cuts. Since owners Gary and Jen Sleppy took it over a few years ago, they’ve livened up the joint with bright paint, patio awnings and an awesome beer list. With 75 choices, you can get a wide variety of German and Belgian beers (like Grimbergen), local (like Rubicon), and microbrewed (like Dogfish Head). The chalkboard menu changes as needed. They’re also serving a full dinner menu from 4 to 8 p.m. Try the bacon-wrapped pork loin with cauliflower puree, the moules (mussels) and fries, or a salad of roasted root vegetables. The prices are surprisingly affordable, too. It’s no sub and pop-top meal, that’s for sure.
