The common man’s ego is such a delicate flower, but what about the artist’s ego?

It can be so revealing to see an artist’s self-portrait, and not necessarily because it’s an opportunity to behold what the artist physically looks like, but because it’s an opportunity to witness how the artist wants to be perceived.
