Sat., Sept. 21, Larisa Bryski

Naked Lounge Downtown, 8:30 p.m., $5

There are few singer-songwriters that not only embody the essence of rock 'n' roll, but do so with a strong roots edge, all while their own voice shines above the music. There's Tom Petty, Sheryl Crow and locally, we have Larisa Bryski. She's gotten her fair share of local accolades, including a 2004 Sammies award for Female Vocalist and opening spots for artists such as Bad Company, Berlin, John Waite and King's X. She brings a blend of heavy rock, blues, pop and folk, which is punctuated by her powerful, undeniable voice. Her songs are strong enough that even when she's not backed by her band, they still hit hard. 1111 H Street, www.larisabryski.com.
