Billy Bragg has made a living off of music for nearly 30 years. But he says that a musician’s celebrity is “brittle power.” So the British folk singer, who was raised on the Clash, does everything he can to be an activist in his spare time. He realizes that while musicians can show solidarity through music, too much faith in a protest song can undermine true activism. That’s why he cares about tackling education in prison, election reform and overhauling the music industry. Oh yeah, he also writes brilliant folk songs about everyday problems. 314 W.
