Sat, June 25, Two-Tone Steiny

Mark “Steiny” Steinmetz is perhaps best known for his virtuosic harp playing. Among local enthusiasts, however, he is recognized as a champion of juke-joint Chicago blues. Yes, he’s a character. He wears colorful suits and has an unmistakably guttural swagger. But Steiny clearly has reserves of admiration for his forefathers. Tracks like “A Hundred Other Women” wouldn’t have sounded out of place on a Chess Records anthology from 1958. His backing musicians are no slouches, either. Steiny’s tracks are catchy as all get out, and 2010’s Welcome to the Club is full of juke pianos, Hammond organs and beautifully nostalgic swing. 8556 Gibson Ranch Road in Elverta, www.twotonesteiny.com.
