Big Idea Theatre’s staging of Shakespeare’s Othello comes at a fascinating time in our own country’s history. There are two main characters in Shakespeare’s Othello—Othello is a powerful, insecure, aging military general and his wingman is Iago—an iconic badass bastard. As current politics clearly shows, mutual devotion can soon be clouded by jealousy, betrayal, unfaithfulness and revenge. Tory Scroggins is Othello, Jesse Janzen is Iago and Rachel Foster is Desdemona. Thu 8pm, Fri 8pm, Sat 8pm, Wed 10/21, 2pm. Through 10/27; $8-$22; Big Idea Theatre, 1616 Del Paso Boulevard; (916) 960-3036; bigideatheatre.org.
