Jen Stract’s “Oaktown I-A-N.”

Who better to host a “green” art exhibit than the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op? After all, its new Elk Grove store boasts a floor made of recycled tires, and shredded blue jeans pad its wall insulation. In celebration of Earth Day, the co-op features an art exhibit born of at least 50 percent recycled materials at its Community Learning Center, 1914 Alhambra Boulevard. Jen Stract reveals Mexican roots with a stylized portrait of her “Grandpa,” stenciled onto a rusted piece of iron. Lynden Boone Durkee (a direct descendent of Daniel Boone) transforms a round ’20s-era gas-pump sign into a clock and an old meter box into a mirror. There’s more, ranging from planters crafted out of farm disc blades to critters stitched from upholstery scraps. But hurry: You’ll only get to check out all 30 pieces this Saturday, April 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. For more information, call (916) 736-6800.
