Last year, abstract expressionist painter Sondra Hersh and metal-sculpture and glass artist Deanna Marsh exhibited their work at the Artisan Gallery, 1901 Del Paso Boulevard. That show served as a catalyst for collaboration, and, as in any artistic discipline, when two talented artists work together, the results pack twice the punch. For example, take The Spark Expanded, at the Artisan until June 29.

The two artists worked together in “Wrapped in Light Renewal,” with Hersh’s rhythmic, almost psychedelic painting seeming to undulate right off the canvas, where March’s kiln-formed glass takes up the motion. In “Circle of Responsibility #1: Pearls of Wisdom,” waves of glass shot through with crimson and goldenrod seem to hover around a circular painting. It’s like the eye in a peacock feather, framed by an aluminum circle, with smaller, multicolored glass pieces clustered at the bottom. These artists’ collaboration confirms the power of two.
