One-day crime spree hits city businesses, homes

Sacramento police interrupted one burglary in progress, pursuing leads in eight other cases

Armed robbers and thieves ransacked homes and businesses around the city of Sacramento on Monday, including three shops that were burgled in close proximity in the north, according to online logs from the Sacramento Police Department.

There were four burglaries and four robberies in total—three of them involving brandished firearms, including one shortly after midnight near the corner of 21st and P streets, where a gun-toting suspect robbed multiple victims before escaping in a vehicle.

Authorities are investigating the above crimes, but did catch a break early that morning. Around 1:19 a.m., police interrupted a burglary in progress at a south Sacramento residence. According to online logs, arriving officers saw the described suspect vehicle start to leave the area, then stop, at which point an armed occupant exited and fled on foot.

The vehicle’s four other occupants were detained as a perimeter was established and the last suspect was apprehended by a police canine, resulting in injuries.
