Mexican, The

Rated 4.0 Together on screen for the first time, Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt are funny in this strange road-trip movie. Pitt plays a would-be thug sent to Mexico to retrieve an antique gun, while Roberts tears up the screen as his justifiably annoyed girlfriend. Pitt is a natural with comedy, and this film provides him with some of his funniest moments. Roberts is getting better with every film, and she’s come full circle from her Pretty Woman days. James Gandolfini from The Sopranos is good as the surprisingly sensitive criminal who takes Roberts hostage. Director Gore Verbinski creates a film that feels entirely original. Here’s to hoping Pitt and Roberts re-team in the future.
