Enemy at the Gates

Rated 2.0 There’s a decent movie buried in here somewhere, but the lousy love triangle and ultimate lack of focus make this WWII drama a bit hard to take. Starting brilliantly with an amazing battle sequence in Stalingrad, the film then switches to a story about a Russian sniper (Jude Law) being chased by a Nazi marksman (Ed Harris). Two-man showdowns replace the big battle sequences, and this probably could’ve sufficed, but a terrible love triangle involving Law, Rachel Weisz and Joseph Fiennes botches the whole thing up. This film would’ve benefited from the loss of the Fiennes and Weisz characters altogether. Still, Law and Harris are good.
