Also playing Goodness Gracious Me!, and Life in 24 Frames. Friday at Luigi’s Fun Garden, 1050 20th Street; 9 p.m.; $5; www.myspace.com/mbisonband.

M. Bison is the kind of band that when you hear its music, you think to yourself, “Man, these dudes are probably from Seattle.” This is in no way a bad thing, seeing as many of M. Bison’s songs are like rain pounding your window as you sit curled up on your warm couch reading a classic novel. While they could have easily ended up on the Garden State soundtrack and sold in Starbucks if they wanted to, M. Bison keeps things fresh with subdued vocals that tease you into expecting climaxes, uplifting beats with descending scales and major chords where there should be minor chords (and vice versa). Sometimes all these things lead into melodic choruses consisting of la la las floating above marching piano lines and funk-inspired guitar leads. It’s all good when your band is named after a character in one of the best video games in history.
