disillusioned golfer (Matt Damon) who loses his way after returning from World War I searches for redemption with the help of a mysterious caddie (Will Smith) in a tournament against two of the game’s finest players. This film is an excuse for director Robert Redford to go outside and shoot some very pretty pictures, and he does just that. The story doesn’t exactly catch fire when the action leaves the golf course, but it’s very intriguing stuff when focusing on the game. Damon delivers an excellent performance, as do Charlize Theron and Smith, in a welcome dramatic turn. Not the best of Redford’s work, but a good film nonetheless..
