Legally Blonde

Rated 2.0 Prep-school fashion major and sorority sister Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon as a perky, wholesome blonde) may be smarter than she looks. Then again, maybe not. This alternately funny and flat comedy about feminist empowerment, social snobbery and stereotyping wants to play Elle both ways and winds up tripping over its own cuteness. In the flimsy plot, Elle packs up her Chihuahua and transfers to Harvard Law School to win back a boyfriend (Matthew Davis) with senatorial ambitions and winds up as a defense attorney on a murder case. The film is a wannabe Born Yesterday for the Clueless crowd set to Josie and the Pussycats pop tunes that never reaches its full comic potential. Directed by Aussie Robert Luketic.
