Kingdom Come

An extended family comes together for a patriarch’s funeral and works through a multitude of private and public issues, squabbles and feelings for the deceased in this lumbering, broadly comic drama. The script feebly wrings spiritual inspiration from stereotypical and superficial characters and a family closet packed to the rafters with soiled relationships and tattered emotional baggage. The large cast includes LL Cool J, Whoopi Goldberg, Vivica A. Fox, Cedric the Entertainer, Jada Pinkett Smith and Tony Braxton. The script is based on David Dean Bottrell and Jessie Jones’ play, Dearly Departed, and directed by Doug McHenry (Jason’s Lyric).
