Kindle Before Kindle

In memoriam, David Humphreys

Kindle before the Kindle,
your books, full-size or chapbooks,
were light-filled screens opening,
like those glorious meshwork
screen doors made radiant of a sudden
under the dawn sun in summer,
opening on poetry, bridging us
to the Asgard implausible. Now,
go up there, become, borne on the back
of your luminous and shaggy centaur,
all text message, hyper and forever.
