Apparently, you don’t have to be black or ride a motorcycle to be a member. Just be a rebel!

After two albums that gave the music scene a much-needed charge of raucous, buzzing guitar noise, the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (BRMC) suddenly seemed doomed. The band was dropped by Virgin, and members were jumping ship. The monster was reassembled in a mad scientist’s lab (perhaps a new deal with RCA was the volt that brought the creature back to life), but the reanimated BRMC is not quite what it was before. Fans were shocked when Howl was released in 2005, showcasing the nuances that were always hiding in the noise of the band’s past albums. Howl could almost be called Americana, with its folksy production and forays into blues and gospel. Unfortunately, when the BRMC plays in Sacramento at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 16, it won’t be in a barn or an old abandoned church. Head on down to the Empire Events Center, located at the corner of 15th and R Streets, and just imagine more appropriate surroundings. Tickets are $15, and the show is for all ages.
