Jack Lynn bids farewell

Jack Lynn has been acting since the 1930s. He worked for many years in London with Sir John Gielgud, Dame Judi Dench and several other British stars. Later, Lynn settled in Pasadena to teach acting, where his students included Dustin Hoffman.

Lynn retired to the Sacramento area some years ago. From time to time, he’s delighted audiences by coming out of retirement to perform or direct a show, like the Woodland Opera House’s current production of The Importance of Being Earnest.

Now well past 80, Lynn is retiring once again. He’s moving back to his native England, partly because he’ll be better off financially under government-sponsored health care. We shall miss him greatly.

Before he leaves us, Lynn will give two farewell performances of his one-man autobiographical show A Reflection on My Life in the Theatre. See the shows on Sunday at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 at the Chautauqua Playhouse, located in the La Sierra Community Center at 5325 Engle Road in Carmichael.
