How terribly adult of you

The weekend after Second Saturday means one thing—a new Toyroom Gallery show. So, this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the Toyroom—one of the area’s more irreverent curators of the lowbrow aesthetic—will have something called The 595 Show hanging for your consideration. Bluenoses should note that this isn’t stuff a Thomas Kinkade fan might want to hang in the kid’s room, but those of you whose noses aren’t blue should enjoy the imagery. Artists include Sacramento’s own John Stuart Berger, along with Glenn Barr, Trevor Brown, Dirty Donny, Ron Donovan, Lil’ Tuffy, Chris Shaw, Chuck Sperry, Joe To and Jonathan Weiner; the show was put together by Lloyd Park. The action starts around 6:30 p.m. each night and runs ’til “late”; Toyroom is in an alley off 24th Street, just north of Second Avenue. Another show of interest: Autodidact photographer/collagist Genie McChane, wife of singer-songwriter Scott, has a show up at Gallery Horse Cow, 1409 Del Paso Boulevard, through September 4. Christian Kiefer really likes it. Take a look at www.justgenie.com and see if you do, too.
