Hail, hail rock ‘n’ roll

Cake is great, but could someone bring me a peanut butter and banana sandwich? Thank you very much.

Now that we’ve got the Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and New Year’s preliminaries out of the way, let’s celebrate a truly important holiday: Elvis’s birthday. Although the U.S. government has yet to honor the King’s birth with a bank holiday, fans should consider taking the day off anyway. Who can work during an eight-hour birthday party at the Downtown Holiday Ice Rink? See live performances by Elvis impersonators at noon and 5 p.m. Spend the rest of the day (from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m.) skating to Elvis’s many hits during a live broadcast by KOOL 101.9 FM and munching on free birthday cake. Admission is free to those dressed as Elvis or Priscilla. For those without costumes, it’s $5 plus $1 for skate rental. The ice rink is located at St. Rose of Lima Park on 7th and K Streets. Call 442-2500 for more information.
