Groovie Ghoulies

Berry’d Alive

Huey Lewis once sang that the heart of rock ’n’ roll is still beating, and on this CD, the Groovie Ghoulies make a good case that Chuck Berry is the heart of rock ’n’ roll. If so, there’s life in the genre yet. The Ghoulies have covered seven of Mr. Berry’s lesser-known tunes on Berry’d Alive. There are some that have gained fame through the Rolling Stones, such as “Carol” or “Don’t Lie to Me,” but most are songs that only the most dedicated Berry fan would know. Because the Ghoulies are dedicated fans themselves, they do full justice to the spirit of the music. Fans of old-school rock will love it, and younger listeners will discover the sweet, simple joy of one of rock music’s pioneers, Charles Edward Anderson Berry. Hail, hail rock ’n’ roll!
