Grinderman

Self-titled

Grinderman began three years ago as a stripped-down version of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, an outfit sometimes referred to as the “Mini Seeds.” Along the way, the project became less of a frontman-and-trio and more of a tight quartet with shared songwriting duties. Cave, bassist Martyn Casey, percussionist Jim Sclavunos and multi-instrumentalist Warren Ellis have crafted a disc of wondrous filthy blues-rock that sounds not so much written as oozed directly out of the lizard brain. The carnally conservative should proceed carefully—the four horsemen of Grinderman have built each buzzing track upon immensely sexual, grinding bass lines and loops. Like a great sex partner, this band knows just how to use tempo, controlled aggression and dirty talk to better your (listening) pleasure.
