With its photos of varicose veins of the scalp and fetal anomalies like you’ve never imagined, Extraordinary Bodies: Photographs from the Mütter Museum of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, at the Crocker Art Museum through November 27, will be a treasure trove to creepily inquisitive wannabe doctors. The human body long has been revered as an artistic subject, but this is an uncommon aesthetic. The curiosity this unusual exhibit inspires is a lot like that with which you hide your eyes during a really scary movie—until you can’t help but peek between your fingers. Too macabre to warrant the trek downtown to 216 O Street? Now you can just click that computer mouse to get up close and personal with 500 high-resolution images from the Crocker’s permanent collection. Last month, the museum launched its online Digital Crocker, at www.crockerartmuseum.org, with six virtual tours featuring many pieces rarely displayed due to limited wall space.
