Frozen, fluffy and flavorful

There's a new dessert spot in town called Vampire Penguin that specializes in “shaved snow.” I'm not really sure how to describe shaved snow, but it's different than shaved ice because it “already has the flavor infused in the ice block,” according to a press release. Anyway, Vampire Penguin opened at 6821 Stockton Boulevard, Suite 110 on October 31, 2013; and its goods taste like fluffy, flavorful shaved ice cream. An order works sort of like an ice-cream shop's: Pick a size, flavor (taro, green tea, mango, strawberry) and toppings (various fruits, beans, nuts, bobas, syrups), and then wait for the staff to make and serve it. Alternately, you can choose one of the signature creations, such as Strawberry Cheesecake or VP-style Halo-halo. Bonus: Vampire Penguin is vegan friendly, according to its Facebook page, and the staff wears all black and bow ties in an attempt to look like penguins. There's nothing else like it in Sacramento.
